Rolling Right into February

Good afternoon MAMQG community!

February has lots of new things to announce. Feel free to click through the new website for changes to the calendar and updated information on programs!

Ricky Tims is coming to town! If you have not had the chance to check out what is in store for his visit, click here. You get 2 days of great demos, new techniques and as always the opportunity to make new friends!

Remember, 2020 dues are now being accepted. If you are a previous member or would like to join, please see our FAQ page for payment options. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us!

Did you know that Kroger and Amazon can/will donate to MAMQG? Connect your Kroger Plus card or shop through Amazon Smiles and these organizations will donate a percentage of your spending to us.

We have officially started the Make It Modern Mini Swap. The emails were sent at 1 pm today, Sunday 2/9/2020. The deadline is the April meeting. This swap is giving us the opportunity to make a quilt for 1 person and receive a quilt from someone else! What an awesome way to meet 2 different people.

This month's member spotlight is Carolyn Benoit! Check out her quilting journey on the February Show & Tell page. Her quilt photos will appear on the Member Spotlight page. Carolyn owns an online fabric shop and is a local longarm quilter. Check out her new website by clicking here!

Our swag store is in full swing. We have shirts, hoodies, mugs and more! The link is on the FAQ page.

February's program was different ways to bind a quilt:

Mary A. showed us the method that uses the backing fabric as the binding eliminating the need to use additional fabric for a binding.

Camille M. showed us how to use Elmer's glue to hold the binding place so you can machine stitch the binding.

Jane D. demonstrated how to use stripes individually and piece them at the corners. The tutorial can be found here and here (login required).

We would like to complete a community outreach project of making T-shirt backpacks. The date and time are currently TBD but it will most likely will happen in the summer. Sarah, our Charity Outreach Chairman is currently working with the Benjamin Hooks Library to finalize details. Please keep a look out for a volunteer request!

Lastly but certainly not least, if you missed the February meeting and want to turn in any Aussie Tree Blocks, please reach out to us so we can get them from you. QuiltCon will have a collection area for them.

Speaking of QuiltCon--It starts next week Thursday 2/20 to be exact. If you are going we look forward to seeing you there!
